Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
My name is Kathy Thwaites and I am registered Clinical Psychologist. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and am a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2009 I have worked within local NHS mental health services providing individual and group psychological therapy for people experiencing a range of mental health / psychological difficulties, e.g. depression, anxiety, eating difficulties, relationship distress, difficulties regarding past trauma.
I have since moved to work within NHS physical health services, offering psychological therapy input for people experiencing Chronic Pain, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Cancer diagnoses. My current NHS role now involves working with the psychological impact of chronic / persistent pain and this work can involve work around acceptance and adjustment to physical health difficulties as well as working with difficulties around anxiety and low mood which can result from chronic health difficulties.
In addition to the above, I also have an interest in the psychological impact of trauma and am trained in EMDR ( Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing ), which is an evidenced based psychological therapy for trauma. I am experienced at working with clients around both childhood trauma as well as trauma in adulthood.
I am currently BUPA approved and can be found on the BUPA approved Consultant and Therapies Finder web-page ( finder.bupa.co.uk).
